MC2 STEM High School Communication
Students Return Tuesday, January 16th, 2018
This quarter, Freshmen will explore the power of communication. Communication becomes effective when used with precision. In English class, students will explore the power of language to express themselves through lyrics, poetry, technical writing, and expository writing. Students will use writing and self-expression to craft a plan to improve their communities. In Science class, students will explore concepts in Physics used to create a means of communication, including electric, sound, and light signals. Students will have an authentic engineering teamwork experience in which the strengths of each member of the group is utilized for the good of the common product. The Communication Capstone is meant to help students define their message and share it with the world. Take a look at the teaching plan for each course attached!
Additionally, student recruitment will begin for next years program. Eligible students will have the opportunity to consider High Tech Academy a program that allows students to begin taking nearly full-time college courses beginning next semester.
Every shoe tells a story. With the advent of wearable tech and the ability to use digital fabrication tools like 3D scanners and printers and Raspberry Pi technology, there is no telling what the future of sneakers might look like! In this Capstone, students will study the history (physical, cultural, and political) of sneakers to bring the past and present into the future. Students will study, design, develop, build, pitch, and market the wearable tech of the future! Take a look at the teaching plan for each course attached!
Additionally, student recruitment will begin for next year’s CCP programming at Tri-C and Cleveland State as well as Early College Early Career with MAGNET
Learning is a process. This process involves guessing, testing, failing, and finding answers. Regardless of a person’s content knowledge or “street smarts” the best way for someone to learn is to use processing skills to get them from where they are to where they want to go. In this capstone, students will explore the similarities and differences between the scientific method, the engineering design process, and the writing process to solve their way out of challenges that currently exist without our society. Students will understand that though the answers aren’t always readily available, going through the process can help one gain the knowledge and skill sets needed to be successful. Students will explore a variety of problems and work to gain the skills to best solve these complex issues. Take a look at the teaching plan for each course attached!
