Ohio State Tests (OST) requirements

The Ohio State Testing requirements for graduation have changed many times over the past 10 years. If you have a student who graduated a few years ago, the requirements now are very different then they were in the past.

Students must earn a cumulative score of 18 points using seven end-of-course state tests.

To ensure students are well rounded, they must earn a minimum of four points in math, four points in English and six points across science and social studies.

End-of-course exams are:

Algebra I – 9th Grade

Geometry – 10th Grade

Biology– 10th Grade

American History – 10th Grade

American government – 11th Grade

English I – 9th Grade

English II– 10th Grade

The Role of Parents in Education

Although a parent’s role in their children’s learning evolves as kids grow, one thing remains constant: we are our children’s learning models. Our attitudes about education can inspire theirs and show them how to take charge of their own educational journey.

  • Be a role model for learning

  • Pay attention to what your child loves

  • Tune into how your child learns

  • Practice what your child learns at school

  • Set aside time to read together

  • Connect what your child learns to everyday life

  • Connect what your child learns to the world

  • Help your child take charge of his learning

  • Don’t over-schedule your child

  • Keep TV to a minimum

  • Learn something new yourself
