Opportunities for Students

As we sail into fourth quarter, many students are beginning to think about growth opportunities. This week, our CMSD newsletter offered a lot of unique and enriching opportunities for students. Take a look at the options below! Please remember, opportunities that are doing the school day require approval from our internship coordinator, Ms. Thomason.

Chasing the Dragon Poster Contest

Heroin and Opiate addiction is commonly referred to as Chasing the Dragon. The FBI and DEA have collaborated to create a documentary entitled "Chasing the Dragon."   The documentary was created to help students gain a deeper understanding of the dangers of opioid addiction. Students can create a piece of artwork based on the central theme of the documentary and enter a poster contest.

2019 Free Speech Essay Contest

ESSAY PROMPT:

Throughout 2018, there have been many conflicts surrounding free speech. From college campuses to the White House and with an increasingly polarized environment, both on and offline, people disagree about how free speech should be utilized and protected in their daily lives. These disagreements about free speech seem to have widened the rift between the left and right and to have made compromise on important issues difficult to reach. In such trying times, we often question whose voice has a right to be heard. What are the biggest threats to freedom of speech? What should be done to protect this core value of American Democracy?

DEADLINE: March 11, 2019

ELIGIBILITY: All high school students (9-12th grade) in public, private, parochial, charter, and home schools in Northeast Ohio

Contest winners can win up to $1000 and the chance to read their essay at a City Club forum?
